Polyester, also known as Terylene, Dacron, or Trevira is widely used for boat lines and sail material because it combines good strength and durability, relatively low stretch and reasonable prices.

Polyester has a specific gravity because of which it does not float. It is very strong, and it has a similar tensile strength to Nylon 6.
